Mediterranean and Asian Diet Web Site Becoming Increasingly Popular as the Low-Carb Diet Fad Starts to Slow

August 11, 2004 -- MediterrAsian.com (http://www.mediterrasian.com), an independent Web site launched in April that promotes the benefits of traditional Mediterranean and Asian diets, has seen a big surge in visitor numbers since the low-carb diet frenzy started to slow two months ago.

"The site has had over 50,000 page views in the last week alone," says Ric Watson, co-founder of MediterrAsian.com, "and we put a lot of it down to the fact that more and more people are realizing there's a big difference between getting your carbs from donuts, chips and cookies, and getting your carbs from vegetables, fruits, grains and beans -- which are foods traditionally eaten in abundance by the lean and long-living peoples of the Mediterranean and Asia."

MediterrAsian.com is not only proving popular with the general public, but also with nutritionists and other health professionals.

"We've been receiving very positive feedback from nutritionists and doctors who say they're relieved there's a Web site out there promoting a healthy, balanced and scientifically proven way of eating instead of restrictive and potentially unhealthy fad diets," says Watson.

One nutritionist who is particularly keen about MediterrAsian.com's message is Christopher Speed, head nutritionist from Oldways Preservation Trust, the highly respected non-profit health education organization who, together with Harvard School of Public Health and the World Health Organization, created the Mediterranean and Asian Diet Pyramids.

"He wrote to us and said we were doing ‘great work,' and that he was ‘extra enthused' we were supporting the Gold Standard status of the Mediterranean and Asian diets," says Watson.
